Corto. Italy and Ireland in a Shapshop: Photos and Video

,

Can a radio station not only promote but also organise a short video competition? Radio Dublino, an Italian radio station abroad and creator of the Italian Fusion Festival, demonstrates that such initiatives can generate value by connecting expatriate talent with the host community.

While some continue to discuss “brain drain” in terms of statistics and numbers, Radio Dublino has chosen a different approach: recognising “talent in transition” by giving individuals a face, a story, and acknowledgement that may have been lacking in Italy.

For years, Radio Dublino has followed emerging talent—directors, storytellers, composers, videomakers, and actors, both Italian and otherwise—during live broadcasts. These conversations have led to collaborations and brought various stories to light, including those of Chiara Viale, Sefora Castro, Max Boccalari, and Maria Fiorentini. The station provided these creatives not just airtime, but a platform to showcase their work through the event “Corto. Italy and Ireland in a snapshot.”

The screening held at the Italian Cultural Institute in Dublin was more than a promotional event for Italian and Irish directors and actors. It represented an opportunity where culture served as a common ground, bringing diverse audiences together.
